The City of Oak Harbor issued the following press release on Wed., Nov. 20, 2024 on the city’s website.

Oak Harbor, WA – November 20, 2024 – During last night’s City Council meeting, Councilmember Shane Hoffmire announced his decision to resign from his position on the Oak Harbor City Council as he and his family move forward with new opportunities out of state.

“I want to take a moment to acknowledge his service to our community and thank him for his time in office,” said Mayor [Ronnie] Wright.

In a statement submitted to the City’s Communications Officer, Councilmember Hoffmire reflected on the honor of serving as a representative of Oak Harbor. He expressed great pride in his focus on amplifying the voices of residents and contributing to the progress of our city. Councilmember Hoffmire expressed gratitude for the incredible city staff and his colleagues on the council, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. He believes that Oak Harbor’s best days are ahead and that the future holds great potential for our community.

As Councilmember Hoffmire embarks on this next chapter with his family, the City extends its best wishes to him and his family as they pursue their next adventure.

November 19, 2024 – City Council MeetingApprove the schedule and procedure for filling the City Council Vacancy, Council Position No. 5.
November 23, 27, 30 and December 4, 2024Advertise the Vacancy in the legal section of the Whidbey News Times, Post on the City’s Website.
December 5, 2024 – 4:30 P.M.Deadline for applications submittal to the City Clerk’s Office.Applicant must be a registered voter in Island County and must reside within the Oak Harbor City Limits for at least one year. 
December 10, 2024 –Special City Council MeetingCouncil to review Qualified Applications and create a Shortlist for interviews. Council has discretion to determine the number of applicants to interview.
December 17, 2024 – Regular City Council MeetingInterview Candidates on Shortlist in open session. 
Move into Executive Session to Discuss Shortlist Candidates.
Resume open session to make final appointment and swear in selected Candidate.
