Part of our comprehensive safety action plan included taking a look at accidents in intersections (so that we can concentrate safety improvements in those areas). The highlighted portions show reported accidents in city limits between 2018 – 2022. It can be a little tricky because anything having to do with HWY 20 is state DOT, not the city (despite being in city limits). So while we can use this to help advocate the state about an area, we cannot just go in and fix it on our own.
Still I like to see objective data. I get emails from time to time letting me know of an area the community feels unsafe. Having data like this can help to put things in perspective. It also lets us know what areas we can improve that may be in our capacity to do so.
