Patriot Day – National Day of Remembrance

Do you remember? Do you remember where you were on 9/11/2001? Like many mothers on the West Coast, I was busy putting cereal bowls on the table, herding kids to get ready for school, and filling backpacks. Suddenly, my hand paused on the back of our couch, the whole world came to a standstill as the TV showed the horrifying images of the twin towers falling.

Fear rifled through our hearts and our communities. Within seconds, NYPD and FDNY were dispatched to respond and evacuate people to safety. Search and rescue began. Near 3,000 people died on that fateful day in New York, Arlington, VA and Shanksville, PA. We lost many of of our first responder heroes that day. We lost military personnel in the Pentagon attack. We lost family members, community leaders, and ordinary folks just going about their business. Many of us can point back to someone they knew. So today, we take a moment in our busy lives, we pause, bow our heads and remember. #neverforget
