State Representative Greg Gilday (R-Camano Island) sent the following update from his official email account on Tue., Oct. 5, 2021.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This Wednesday, Oct. 6, the Tax Structure Work Group is hosting two virtual town halls. Residents living in Legislative Districts 10, 38, 39, 40, 42, and 44 are invited to take part in these critical tax discussions. Meeting details and registration links are listed below.

The Tax Structure Work Group

The Tax Structure Work Group was created in 2017 “to identify options to make the Washington state tax code more equitable, adequate, stable and transparent.” In May, the group released six tax “scenarios,” including a plan to implement a personal income tax. These tax proposals will be presented and discussed during the town halls.

As many of you already know, several tax increases have been approved over the past few years by the majority party, including a new income tax on capital gains. Click here for a complete list of recent tax increases. And yet, there is simply no good reason to raise taxes right now.

Despite the economic impact of the pandemic, our state’s tax revenue forecast has remained incredibly strong. In fact, the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council announced in September a continuing trend of robust tax revenue collections.

If you are concerned about an income tax or want to discuss the need for tax relief, now is your opportunity to do so; the Tax Structure Work Group is looking for your input.
