Marie Shimada (D-Freeland), candidate for Island County Commissioner, District 1, posted this on her Facebook page on .
Friends,
I felt it was important to keep in touch with all of you as we approach the final days and hours of election season. It’s true that you never really stop campaigning!
Our Team Marie efforts have not let up as we’ve been trying to Get Out The Vote – we’ve still been doorknocking, sign-waving, and holding campaign meetings. Voters from all over the County have been talking about how important this election is for them.
This experience reminded me of the same closing statements I gave at our final candidate forum last month, and they are words I hope to leave with all of you before Election Day:
Effort has a direct correlation to interest. I’m the one who tried in this race because I’m the one who cares about our community. Experience has no meaning without care or involvement. I’m not doing this for myself or to collect a paycheck, I am doing this so I can open the door of local government and bring all of you in with me to create a thriving future for our islands.
No matter the outcome of the election, I am able to reflect on this year with you all and take pride in everything that we’ve accomplished with our campaign. We’ve set records, broken down barriers, worked across party lines, waded through mud-slinging to finish a clean campaign, and we’ve gotten people to become first-time voters (just last night at dinner, two people publicly exclaimed that I was the only Democrat they’ve ever voted for). We have truly brought people together to form bonds that will surely outlast any political term, and for that, I am forever grateful to each of you.
In service,
Marie
