On January 23, South Whidbey Elementary students came together for a meaningful Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly, honoring Dr. King’s legacy of service, peace, and hope. The morning began with a warm welcome from Principal Richards, the Pledge of Allegiance, and recognition of our newest citizens setting the tone for reflection and unity.

Students from Ms. Currier’s class shared their dreams for the future, reminding us of the power of hope and possibility. Ms. Simmons’ class followed with a short play and thoughtful reflections on how each of us can make a positive impact in the world. We also celebrated our ongoing Day of Service tradition, highlighting classroom and group projects through a slideshow that showcased students living out Dr. King’s values.

The assembly included the kickoff of a schoolwide food drive for Good Cheer, inviting everyone to participate in service together.

To close, the 2nd and 3rd grade Singing Club filled the room with joy, unity, and dance through performances of The World Is a Rainbow and Everyday People, ending with a final video and a rousing Love Train.

Principal Richards encouraged students to carry forward Dr. King’s message through acts of kindness, acce[tamce. service, peace, and love.
