South Whidbey Elementary students lit up the campus during this year’s Lantern Walk! About four years ago, our 2nd graders began this beautiful tradition while studying cultures and celebrations from around the world. They discovered that in the darkest days of winter, light is a universal symbol, representing hope, joy, renewal, love, and the promise of a new year. Students also reflected on their own “inner light”: the strength, kindness, and compassion they carry within themselves. From that learning grew a cherished tradition: creating handmade lanterns, learning songs, and walking quietly through the school to share their light with the entire community. A simple, glowing reminder that even the smallest lights shine bright together. Way to go Orcas!
