We are honored to celebrate a very special milestone for one of our own: Happy 103rd Birthday, Eleanor (Matterand) Clayton, SHS Class of 1940!
Born March 13, 1922, and raised in a home along the Stillaguamish River, Eleanor’s journey from Stanwood High School (now Stanwood Middle School) to 103 years of wisdom, kindness, and cherished memories is an inspiration to us all.
She graduated in 1940 in a class of 49 other Stanwood High School Pirates (SHS were the Pirates from 1938-1944 before becoming the Twin City Cardinals from 1944-1962 and then the SHS Spartans).
Eleanor lives in Stockton, California — her home for the past 60 years — and talks often of Stanwood and classmates. As a birthday gift, we sent Eleanor a card and several photos from the 1939-40 yearbook and from the Stanwood Camano News archives.
From all of us in the Stanwood-Camano community, we wish Eleanor a wonderful birthday filled with love, laughter, and joy! We thank her for being a part of our history and continuing to inspire future generations.
