Press release regarding new WSRB rating going into effect.
August 8, 2024

Earlier this year, the Washington Survey and Rating Bureau (WSRB) completed an evaluation of the fire protection capabilities of South Whidbey Fire/EMS as they relate to fire insurance rating. This evaluation looked at many aspects of our operation, including:

• our staffing,
• our stations,
• our vehicles and equipment,
• specialty equipment such as our fire boat,
• our training program,
• our fire prevention program,
• our response time history,
• water supply systems within the district,
• and our communications system

As a result of this evaluation, the rating of SWFE outside of the City of Langley improved from Protection Class (PC) 7 to a PC 6. The rating within the City of Langley remained a PC6. This new rating went into effect on August 1, 2024.

This new PC 6 rating will apply to residential and commercial properties located within 5 road miles of any of our six fire stations, and within 1000 feet of a standard fire hydrant and water supply.

WSRB informed subscribing insurance companies of this change over the past months since the survey was completed in April, however, not all insurance companies subscribe to WSRB. It is recommended that residents of SWFE’s jurisdiction contact their insurance agents to determine the relative effect this new PC will have on their insurance premiums.
