30+ middle school bands perform at Stanwood festival

Stanwood Middle School is turned up the volume as we played host to the annual Middle School Band Festival presented by the Mount Pilchuck Music Educators Association.
The two-day event on March 3-4 featured about 30 middle school bands from across the region — including our Port Susan Middle and Stanwood Middle bands!
Each band moved through a festival rotation that includes a 20-minute warm-up, a 20-minute performance, and a 20-minute clinic with a professional adjudicator who provides detailed feedback using a scoring rubric. A huge thank you to this year’s adjudicators — Mya Wagner, Jim Rice, Phillip Onishi, Michelle Rockwood, and Amy Stevenson — all experienced music educators helping students grow as musicians.
Hosting an event of this size takes a tremendous amount of coordination, and we are grateful to our middle school music teachers Liz Currey and Jonathan Bletscher for helping organize this massive undertaking, along with the many student and parent volunteers keeping everything running smoothly.
Events like this reflect a core priority in our district’s strategic plan: creating meaningful learning experiences that help students grow their skills, build confidence, and connect their learning to real-world opportunities.
