State Senator Ron Muzzall sent this from his official email account on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Greetings Friends,

We’ve just passed the half-way point of the 2022 legislative session. That means that the Senate will be busy in the coming days voting on legislation that made it through the committee process and sending those to the state House for consideration. The House will be doing the same and we’ll start looking at their bills.

With that in mind, my seatmates and I are holding a joint virtual town hall to discuss what’s going on in your state government. I remain hopeful that the legislative majority exercises restraint with the considerable (as much as $10 billion) surplus the state has. There is a great opportunity here to provide needed tax relief to working families and small businesses that won’t impact critical services. In addition, we must focus our oversight efforts on state agencies who continue to break the public’s trust.

We’ll discuss these topics and more during our town hall and I hope that you can join us.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance

Parts of our district were hit hard by recent floods and families are in need of help. I was notified Monday about Disaster Unemployment Assistance from the state Employment Security Department (ESD). Similar to the benefits available during the early part of the COVID pandemic, there is some extra help a result of the federal disaster declaration. Those living or working in Skagit, Whatcom and Clallam counties, as well as the Lummi Nation, Nooksack Tribe, and Quileute Tribe may be eligible.

There is a narrow window to apply, which ends March 9. You can find more information by visiting ESD’s website here.

My office is here to help with any concerns or challenges you may have with state government. Email continues to be the best way to contact me. It is an honor to serve you.

Sincerely,

Ron Muzzall

Your 10th District State Senator
