Senator Ron Muzzall (R-Oak Harbor) sent out the following email from his campaign account on Tue., Apr. 19, 2022.

Dear friends,

After the legislative session it takes me a month being back on the farm to get to some sort of normalcy after spending every day fighting progressives and truly dangerous proposals.

I’ve now taken part in three legislative sessions. As a political outsider I am still astounded by the dysfunction of government. What I have learned is that a self perpetuating bureaucracy is real. And I despise it!

I have three priorities I would like to share with you: public safety; reducing the cost of living; and trust in government.

  1. Public safety. The fact that we need to hold law enforcement accountable isn’t lost on me. But vilifying all law enforcement isn’t the answer. They need our support! We deserve the right to feel safe in our homes and on our streets. There are very few of us who don’t feel the problems we are facing after several anti-cop laws were passed last year: increased property crime; more violent crime; and the killing of our police officers by life long criminals.
  2. Cost of living. We are seeing the highest rate of inflation in forty years, thanks to massive government overspending. I fear this could be followed by a recessionary period, just like last time. The progressive majority in Olympia just added 6 billion more dollars to our budget, over the objections of every conservative legislator. They have doubled our state budget in the last ten years. Budgets go up, but unlike gravitational law, it seldom comes down. This has a negative impact on our economy, and on your family budget. The more money hijacked from your paycheck for government means less disposable income…less money for the things you want and higher costs for the things you have to have. And those in the bottom third of our economy are the hardest hit. I’m fighting this every day in Olympia!
  3. Trust in government. Is it any wonder why citizens have lost faith in government to do the right thing? Are we seeing an increase in services? No…only disfunction and bloated government. We have departments in the state of Washington government that continue to fail and have no accountability. Employment Security Department? The one who gave $800 million to third world shysters? Well, their incompetence continues. They came to us in session to report that the Paid Family and Medical Leave program would be out of money in March. It seems that 7 out of the last 8 quarters had been in the red and they needed a cash infusion. They could have come to us last session. They could have raised the tax that funds it. They did raise it January of this year, but it came too late to save them. So the legislature ponied up 300 million dollars of your money to make it solvent and they reversed the January 1 increase. The progressives know it is not good to raise taxes in an election year.

Speaking of taxes, you will hear the Olympia crowd say “we didn’t raise taxes!” However they certainly raised fees, which feel a lot like taxes to those who pay them. Now, when you go to the Department of Licensing you will feel it. Some fees were raised by 500 percent.

It is their political strategy to put off most tax hikes until after the next election. Low Carbon Fuel Standards will go into effect on January 1 of 2023, two months after this election. Passed into law in 2021, the new regulations will add another dollar to the cost of fuel. Yikes! This unfair tax burden is nothing more than virtue signaling to the activists they answer to. The “fuel standards” will have almost no impact on carbon but it sure hurts the average family who is already struggling with skyrocketing gas prices.

I am currently ranking member on Health and Long term Care Committee. I am Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Caucus and I serve on the campaign committee.

Friends, 2022 is the year! We have the best chance to take back the majority in the Senate than we have seen in 30 years. Unfortunately this takes money.

Though I’m not up until 2024 I have to begin fundraising. In 2020 my opponent outspent me by double. I still won but I don’t want to repeat that. The more money I have in my campaign fund shows the level of support I have for my campaign. Even if it is in small amounts, the number of contributors speaks volumes.

The maximum legal donation is $1,000 per person, or $2,000 per couple. But even $50, $100, or $250 will go a long way in helping us stay in the fight!

Can I count on your help? You can make a donation to my campaign here. [Ed. Note: donation link omitted.]
