The Stanwood-Camano School Board voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

Board members Al Schreiber, Steve King, and Betsy Foster voted to accept the resignation. Board members Miranda Evans and Charlotte Murry abstained.

Dr. Rumbaugh sent the following message to staff and families:

You may have heard that I have submitted my resignation to the Board of Directors, effective June 30, 2025. This decision was not made lightly and comes with deep respect for the district, its students, staff, and the community that has been the cornerstone of our shared promise to serve every student.

As we look ahead, I want to emphasize that the coming months are crucial for the strategic work we have already laid out and continue to work toward each and every day.

I am and will continue to be a champion of the Stanwood-Camano School District, our Promise, Strategic Plan, and building-level AAPs — all of which are in service of student achievement.

Our collective efforts, collaboration, and resilience have been the foundation of our district’s success, and I am confident that, together, we will continue to create the conditions for all students to thrive.

The Board also heard an update on the district’s Technology infrastructure from Deputy Superintendent Ryan Ovenell.

The board also received three donations:

  • $750 from the Utsalady Ladies Aid to purchase alternative seating options for classrooms at Utsalady Elementary School.
  • $585.58 from the Stanwood Booster Club to cover the transportation cost of the field trip to Washington State University.
  • A donation through the Stanwood High School Band Boosters from the Floyd and Delores Jones Endowment of a soprano saxophone for the Stanwood High School Band, valued at $2,249.

Six citizens spoke during the public comment period.

The board then adjurned for a study session to discuss an academic task force.
