School Board awards Shining Star, Anti-HIB Poster Contest winners

The Stanwood-Camano School Board awarded a Shining Star honor and the four winners of the district annual poster contest during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025.
Twin City Elementary School’s Claire Dott was presented with the Shining Star award from Principal Ryan Barci. Congratulations Claire!
Jennifer Allen, Executive Director of Student Support Services, presented the board the district’s annual Anti-Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) Poster Contest winners in four categories:
The board heard a report from Twin City Elementary Principal Barci on the building’s School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plan.
Ruth Floyd, Executive Director of Business Services, then provided the board the Year-End Financial Report, F196 Annual Financial Statements, the August 2025 Financial Report, and the September 2025 Financial Report.
Superintendent Ryan Ovenell presented the November Enrollment Report and then he and Director Steve King honored outgoing Director Al Schreiber for his years of service on the board.
The board also received two donations:
- $200 from Jonathan Soth in support of helping cover food services balances for students at Stanwood Middle School.
- $200 from Jonathan Soth in support of helping cover food services balances for students at Stanwood Elementary School.
The board also unanimously approved a schedule change for its lone December meeting. That regular business meeting is at 6 p.m. on Dec. 2 instead of at 1 p.m. Dec. 2.
No one spoke during the public comment period.
Prior to the regular Nov. 18, 2025, meeting, the board held a Special Meeting to discuss Board Policy 3241 Student Discipline.
