The Stanwood-Camano School Board presented a Shining Star award and heard several reports during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026.

The board awarded a Shining Star honor to Stanwood High School senior Shawn Hawkins.

The board heard a report from Stanwood Elementary School Principal Staci Lauinger on the building’s School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plan.

District leadership members then presented a Local Health & Wellness Report (Policy 6700 and Policy 5515), and Superintendent Ryan Ovenell provided the January Enrollment Report.

Ovenell then read a proclamation declaring January as School Board Directors Recognition Month.

The board also received three donations:

  • $500 from the Camano Island Yacht Club in support of the Stanwood High School Choir Club.

One citizen spoke during the public comment period.

The board then adjourned into a study session to discuss Board Goal Setting and Board Operating Protocol. They followed with an Executive Session to review the performance of a district employee.
