School Board swears in new board member and 2 new student reps

The Stanwood-Camano School Board swore in its new board member Michael Olson and two student representatives during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025.

Superintendent Ryan Ovenell administered the Oath of Office to Olson, Patrick Rogers of Lincoln Hill High, and Alexa Lay of Stanwood High.
The board also heard a report from Elger Bay Elementary by Principal Kimberly Caldwell on the building’s School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plan.
Then, the board heard updates on Summer School and enrollment.
The board also approved two donations:
- $55,000 donation through the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation from private donations and a community fundraiser, which was matched by Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation, to provide financial support for elementary school supplies.
- $536.70 from the Stanwood Elementary School PTO to cover the transportation costs of the June field trips to Stanwood Cinemas, Heritage Park, and Snow Goose Produce.
Prior to the meeting, the board held a study session to discuss the possibility of asking voters to decide on a Safety & Infrastructure capital levy in February 2026.
