SOUTH WHIDBEY RECORD: Audience interrupts school board meeting with Pledge of Allegiance
Community members interrupted the August 25 South Whidbey School Board meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Board member Damian Greene was the only board member to stand and join in. Board Member Brook Willeford pointed out that it was a disruption to interrupt the meeting while they were discussing whether or not to open the door.
Superintendent Josephine Moccia said that while the board has not begun meetings with the pledge for many years, students in all South Whidbey School District schools say it every day. Greene asked to add to the next workshop meeting agenda a discussion about “why or why not we do the Pledge of Allegiance, and where we are personally in supporting that.” Willeford agreed to add this to the agenda.
