United Student Leaders, an activist group of children attending South Whidbey High School, removed a controversial post about School Board member Damian Greene from their Facebook page. The post insinuated that Greene, and his wife Maureen, had something to do with the theft of a Black Lives Matter banner that was hanging on a fence on school property. After Greene registered his disapproval, the post has now disappeared.

At the July 28 School Board meeting, public commenters spent nearly an hour and a half expressing either support for or disapproval of the controversial banner. Board Member Brook Willeford stated that the opposing view of the statement ‘Black Lives Matter’ is ‘Black lives don’t matter.’ Board member Marnie Jackson stated she thought it would be “a slap in the face and a threat to the safety of our students to take down the banner that says ‘Black Lives Matter.” For all the details, see the story by Karina Andrew in the South Whidbey Record.
