Langley Mayor Scott Chaplin

Langley Mayor Scott Chaplin may possibly be elected to a seat on the Langley city council in the upcoming November elections. He was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Tim Callison, who resigned last summer when he moved out of Langley, However, the appointment came after Chaplin had filed to run for a Langley city council seat and it was too late to remove his name from the ballot.

“Don’t vote for me,” he said with a laugh. Since state law doesn’t allow anyone to hold more than one elected office, if he is elected, he will have to formally resign from the position he does not want. In that case, Island County Elections Supervisor Michele Reagan explained his resignation would be treated like any other resignation and it would be up to the city council to appoint a replacement.

Tony Gill and write-in candidate Gail Fleming are also on the ballot contending for the same city council seat. For the details, see the story by Kira Erickson.
