SOUTH WHIDBEY RECORD: Letter: Turning hotel into housing won’t solve problem
Langley City Councilmember Thomas Gill wrote a letter to the editor about the Island County Commissioners’ grant of $70,000 to the Low Income Housing Institute for “predevelopment costs” to convert a Freeland hotel into low-income housing. The letter was published in the South Whidbey Record on Wed., Nov. 3.
They Said It
Councilmember Thomas Gill: I’m shocked, but not surprised that the county would have a fundamental misunderstanding about the housing issues in the county... There is no one magic bullet, nor is there one single problem. We need to look at things holistically, and treat the actual disease, otherwise, we will just keep chasing our tail, and nothing positive in the long term will come of all of this time and money.
