SOUTH WHIDBEY RECORD: Port commissioners pass industrial development
The Port of Coupeville has passed an industrial development tax levy that will tax assessed property values at 45 cents per thousand. The expectation is that the tax will generate approximately $1.25 million the first year. Commissioner David Day said “This money has to be spent on designated projects. It’s not for administration. It’s not for hiring a bunch of people. It’s for getting work done at the wharf and at the farm.” Voter approval was not required for the levy, but public comments concerning the implementation have, in the past, been “overwhelmingly positive.”
