SOUTH WHIDBEY RECORD: Two-pool option floats to top in study
The South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District has been trying to construct a public pool on the South End of Whidbey Island. They have partnered with the South Whidbey Parks and Aquatics Foundation, which has committed to raising the necessary funding for the construction. Recently, Commissioner Matt Simms and Foundation President Marni Zimmerman presented to the commission a progress report, which moves the decades long project from a 3-pool design to a 2-pool design
In 2008, a $15 million bond for the project did not pass. Now, they are discussing the possibility of a $5 million bond to be on the ballot as early as August 2022.
“I think we have a much better chance of gaining public support in order to pass that bond,” Simms said. Commissioner Erik Jokinen said, “In my mind, the two pools are easier to sell than having three if you word that correctly.” For more details, see the story by Kira Erickson in the South Whidbey Record.
