Spartans Serve: A Day of Action in Honor of Dr. King
On Friday, Jan. 16, Stanwood High School students honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by turning a day of remembrance into a day of meaningful service through our inaugural Spartans Serve event.
In total, 285 students volunteered across 19 locations throughout Stanwood and Camano, partnering with local schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to support real, hands-on needs across our community.
Students rolled up their sleeves in a wide variety of ways, such as:
- At the Camano Animal Shelter Association, volunteers cleaned pet areas, organized storage units, and helped care for animals.
- At the Stanwood Camano Food Bank, students organized donations and packed materials from the organization’s Christmas House so it’s ready for the next holiday season.
- At the Community Resource Center of Stanwood-Camano, they tackled a range of tasks, including cleaning and sorting.
- At The Caring Place, volunteers helped organize inventory to support the organization’s work.
- At Church Creek Park, students cleaned up debris and shoveled, wheelbarrowed, and spread mulch to help improve the park for the community.
Across every site, students demonstrated teamwork, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to helping others — living out Dr. King’s belief that service strengthens communities and brings people together.
We are grateful to the many community partners, staff, bus drivers, and chaperones who made this day possible, and especially proud of our students for leading with action, compassion, and purpose.
