CAMANO: Ovenell: Leadership changes at two elementary schools (FB)

Stanwood-Camano School District interim superintendent Ryan Ovenell announced Friday, May 2, a leadership update impacting both Elger Bay Elementary and Cedarhome Elementary school communities.

Elger Bay Principal Liz Sanchez has announced that she will be stepping down at the end of this school year. The district is incredibly grateful for the lasting impact she’s made in her time here. As a first-year principal, Ms. Sanchez approached every challenge with thoughtfulness, humility, and a deep commitment to students. She built strong relationships with staff and families and showed care in every decision she made. The district couldn’t be more thankful for the leadership she’s provided and the heart she brought to Elger Bay.

Beginning this summer, current Cedarhome Elementary Principal Kimberly Caldwell will transition into the principal role at Elger Bay. Mrs. Caldwell brings more than 10 years of school leadership experience, strong ties to our district, and a deep commitment to building positive school culture, supporting student growth, and partnering with families.

Ovenell said he acknowledges that leadership transitions often bring a mix of uncertainty and opportunity. “While change can be challenging, I’m confident in the thoughtful steps we’re taking to support students, staff, and families through this next chapter,” he said.

The district will soon begin the process of hiring the next principal for Cedarhome Elementary. The first step is for staff and families to complete a survey to provide desired traits and characteristics of the next Cedarhome principal.
