An Elger Bay Elementary student earned the Shining Star Award and the Stanwood-Camano School Board proclaimed April as School Library Month during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

The School Board heard an annual report about Elger Bay Elementary from principal Tim Dickinson. Elger Bay student Elijah Caceres was also on hand to accept the Shining Star Award!

The School Board read a proclamation stating the importance of school libraries, and urged students and citizens to join them in the special observance.

In addition, the Board approved receiving the following donations:  

  • $2,000 from Cedarhome PTO to purchase a water bottle filling station for Cedarhome Elementary School. 
  • $385 from Cedarhome PTO to cover transportation costs for the Cedarhome second grade  field trip to Riverside Lanes Bowling Alley on March 14 in Mount Vernon.
  • $461 from Cedarhome PTO to cover transportation costs for the Cedarhome fourth grade  field trip to the Stillaguamish Tribe Community Center on February 24.
  • $222 from Twin City PTA to cover transportation costs for the Twin City fourth grade field trip to the Stillaguamish Tribe Community Center on February 24.
  • $200 from Sellina Wyman of Stanwood in support of Port Susan Middle School’s drama department.

The next scheduled School Board meeting is 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, in the boardroom at the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration & Resource Center at 26920 Pioneer Highway in Stanwood.

On the Ballot in November 2023

STANWOOD-CAMANO SCHOOL DISTRICT (NO. 401)
Directors. Three of the five director positions are scheduled to be on the ballot.
Position 3: Miranda Evans.
Candidates for Position 3 must live in director district 3; see the map at this link.
Position 4: Debbie Bayes.
Director Bayes was appointed after Ken Christoferson resigned his seat on Dec. 6, 2022. The position will be on the ballot in 2023 to fill the remainder of Christoferson’s term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2023, and the succeeding four-year full term, which ends Dec. 31, 2027.
Position 5: Natalie Hagglund.
Position 5 is an “at large” position; candidates may live anywhere in the district.
