Island County is in the beginning stages of updating its comprehensive plan, a document that will serve as the centerpiece of local planning for the next decade.
Island County Commissioner Janet St. Clair held a town hall meeting Thursday, Jan. 25, to share information about the county’s comprehensive plan. However, much of the meeting was taken over by questions about Springwood Forest School.
Springwood Forest School on Camano Island opened its doors in January 2022. Just about two years later, the school is facing permanent closure unless an agreement is reached with Island County.

Camano Island Fire & Rescue is currently operating with dwindling personnel, an unstaffed fire station and a whole lot of hope. The hope is to pass a fire levy lid lift on the upcoming Nov. 7 ballot, allowing Camano Fire to increase the amount of property taxes it collects.
