WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES: The county commissioners adopted an amendment to an ordinance last week clarifying that the county’s one-tenth of 1% sales tax to support housing can be used for the purchase and rehabilitation of existing dwelling units for affordable housing.
WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES: A development moratorium in semi-urban areas of unincorporated Island County remains in effect, but changes are likely when commissioners consider a replacement moratorium next month.
WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES: The Department of Homeland Security published a list of “sanctuary jurisdictions” in the nation that are allegedly defying federal immigration law. However, Island County made the list, even though it does not have a sanctuary policy, and the city of Langley is not on the list.
WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES: Oak Harbor officials’ plan to adopt a business and occupation tax to help fund marina dredging, the construction of a marina breakwater and a city recreation center fell apart during vigorous debate at a city council meeting Tuesday.
WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES: Unanimously approved by Island County commissioners last week, the Keystone Farm and Forest Preserve owned by the Whidbey Camano Land Trust became the island’s third special review district.
