Thursday night at around 8:15, North Whidbey Fire and Rescue’s (NWFR) Marine units and Oak Harbor Fire were dispatched to a report of a sinking boat with two people in the water near the Navy pier at the Seaplane Base. NWFR launched two boats and started a search. NASWI SAR also had their Rescue helicopter searching. With the help of an NWFR member on shore, the boat was located run aground and, on its side, on the east side of Polnell Point, about a mile from where they reported being. The Navy SAR helo landed on the beach and removed the victims. A landing zone was set up at the Navy Exchange parking lot, where a Whidbey Health ambulance was waiting. Both victims declined medical care. NWFR would like to thank all partners for this great outcome: Island County Sheriff’s Office, NASWI Fire Department, Oak Harbor Fire Department, and Navy Police.
