Today, Feb. 11, about 150 high school students participated in a student-initiated walkout during the school day.

As previously communicated, this event was not planned, organized, or sponsored by the Stanwood-Camano School District, our schools, or our staff. Classes continued as scheduled, and staff remained focused on maintaining a safe learning environment for all students.

Staff were present on campus to help monitor and ensure student safety while instruction continued for those who remained in class.

Attendance procedures were followed in accordance with state law and district policy. Students who left class during instructional time were marked absent, and families will receive attendance notifications through the district’s normal process.

We recognize that events like this can generate a wide range of perspectives within a community. As a public school district, our role is not to take positions on the issues that may motivate student expression. Our responsibility is to balance students’ constitutional rights with our obligation to maintain safe, respectful schools focused on learning.

Our priority remains keeping schools safe, respectful, and focused on learning. We appreciate our families’ partnership as we support students while upholding expectations that allow schools to function smoothly for all.

Thank you for your continued support.
