ORIGINAL POST:
At approximately 6:13 am this morning, Island County Deputies were dispatched to a report of robbery and shooting near the intersection of State Route 20 and Cornet Bay Road adjacent to the Deception Pass State Park.
The initial report came from a passing motorist who called 911 to report that they had a gunshot victim in their car and that they were headed to island Hospital in Anacortes. The caller relayed information from the victim who said that he was a delivery truck driver who had stopped near the roadside when the suspect confronted him, shot him and drove off south bound in the victim’s truck. The victim was able to provide a basic description of the suspect.
As Deputies and Washington State Troopers began to converge on the area additional callers reported that a delivery truck had gone off the road on Monkey Hill Rd and that the vehicle was running and the door was open, but the driver had apparently fled. An additional caller subsequently reported that they had interrupted a person who matched the description of the fleeing suspect as he was in the process of stealing a bicycle from their outbuilding. The caller reported that the suspect was removing clothing as he fled with the bicycle.
Responding officers located the suspect on Imperial lane without incident. The suspect, identified as 23 year old Adam BELANGER, was transported to the Whidbey Health Hospital for evaluation and then booked into the Island County Jail pending potential charges of Robbery in the First Degree and Assault in the First Degree.
