WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES: Auditor issues 2 findings against hospital
The State Auditor’s Office issued two findings against the Whidbey Island Hospital District in a just-released audit report covering Jan. 1 2019 through Dec. 31, 2020. The audit found that the hospital district is two years behind in submitting complete and accurate annual financial reports and that the hospital district does not have adequate controls to prevent the misappropriation or misuse of “theft-sensitive assets.”
The report states the submitted 2019 annual report “contained significant errors and was incomplete.” The district also filed an incomplete 2020 report.
Additionally, with respect to theft-sensitive assets, the district submitted a list of 69 such assets in 2019. The auditors selected 12 items from the list but the district was unable to locate 10 of the 12 items. This weakness in tracking theft-sensitive assets was also reported in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
