Candidates for the Oak Harbor City Council weighed in on the pending City Council vote on whether or not to accept the gift of the bright-red abstract depiction of an angel that will cost the City $35,000 to install. A recent public survey indicated a 70% opposition rate to accepting the sculpture.

Four candidates for city council said they would not vote to accept it citing their concerns with maintenance, aesthetics, and an impression that most citizens were left out of the conversation. Shane Hoffmire who is running against incumbent Joel Servatius said he would vote against it. Incumbents Joel Servatius and Jim Woessner have both previously said they would vote to accept the sculpture.

While Candidate Bryan Stucky is opposed to accepting it, his opponent Candidate Andy Plumlee said he was not very familiar with the sculpture, but said he would want more data about public opinion before making a decision.

Candidates Dan Evans and Fe Mischo, who are running against each other, would vote no. All candidates agreed they would support a windmill over the Angel sculpture. The fate of the Angel sculpture may be decided at the Sept. 7 City council meeting.
