Former Island County Commissioner Rick Hannold (R-Oak Harbor), who is running against Commissioner Janet St. Clair (D-Camano Island) to regain his seat, wrote a letter to the editor apologizing for comments made in a candidate forum on May 20. The letter was published in the Saturday, May 28, 2022 edition of the Whidbey News Times.

Rick Hannold: “I am quoted as referring to Commissioner Janet St. Clair as an evil woman. I want to say that I deeply regret that comment.I offer my apology to Ms. St. Clair. I am sorry to have made such a cruel statement.”
