During last Wednesday’s City Council workshop, Mayor Bob Severns floated the idea of rebuilding the windmill that used to be in Windjammer Park. He commented that the city council said it would be rebuilt when it was torn down in 2017.

Councilmember Jim Woessner reports being approached by a grassroots group who are interested in forming a public-partnership to rebuild the windmill. He said “Obviously, it’s near and dear to people’s hearts, including mine. We should take this momentum and see what we can do with it.”

In the story by Jessie Stensland, she reports that Councilmember Tara Hizon said “she understood that financing wasn’t the reason the city hasn’t made any progress on rebuilding the windmill before now, but that officials wanted to take the time to build a “showpiece,” possibly in a later phase of Windjammer Park construction.”

Mayor Severns said that the city’s archeologist, Gideon Cauffman, is the city’s point person on the issue.
