Jessie Stensland reports in the Whidbey News-Times that the state Department of Health has temporarily taken over contact tracing from Island County. Several employees, including nursing staff, the community and family health director, and the health officer have either left or decided not to renew their contracts. District 2 Commissioner Jill Johnson said she was frustrated with Public Health staff’s lack of response to her inquiries about contact tracing, while Human Resources Director (and District 1 Commissioner-elect) Melanie Bacon said that public health nurses across the country are leaving their jobs because “they feel that people aren’t listening to them.” District 3 Commissioner Janet St. Clair expressed gratitude toward the Public Health staff and confident in their leadership.
